When to get a cloud migration second opinion before you sign

The room nodded on the MSP migration quote — but nobody qualified validated the waves, rollback, or identity assumptions. A fixed-price second opinion pays for itself when six figures are on the line.

Cloud migration quotes arrive with confident timelines and line items nobody in the room can challenge. Finance sees capex avoidance; ops sees disruption; the partner who sold the deal sees margin. A second opinion is not distrust — it is governance before you bind the business to a cutover date.

North Ark FC-08 Tech Second Opinion delivers a written review of the vendor SOW, migration quote, or MSP plan plus a 30-minute call — in two business days, fixed at $1,990 AUD.

Triggers that should force a review

Citrix or VMware renewal tied to the same project. Identity "will be handled later." No pilot wave defined. Rollback mentioned once in appendix C. Cutover on a Friday with no onsite plan. Price 40% below the last failed attempt.

Any one of these is a yellow flag. Three or more means pause and review before signature.

What a good review covers

Scope boundaries: inclusions, exclusions, and who owns BAU vs project work. Wave plan and dependencies. Identity and security baseline readiness. DR and rollback. Assumptions on user counts, storage, and network. Realistic hypercare.

You should receive plain-language findings ranked by business risk — not a rewritten vendor proposal.

How it differs from a sales audit

We are not selling a bigger migration to replace the first quote. FC-08 is fixed scope: review what is on the desk, tell you what is sound, what is missing, and what to negotiate or re-scope.

Many clients stop at the review; others proceed into Engineer delivery or a Citrix brief (FC-02) with clearer assumptions.

Pair with cost and renewal briefs

If the quote includes ongoing Azure consumption, add FC-01 Cloud Cost Snapshot. If Citrix renewal drove the project, FC-02 compares stay vs AVD vs Azure Local.

See all cloud migration packages and book FC-08 directly if the quote is already on your desk.

Frequently asked questions

What documents do we need for FC-08?
The vendor SOW or quote, any architecture diagram they provided, user/app counts, and your target cutover window. Redact commercial terms if needed — we review technical scope and delivery risk.
Will you tell us to fire our MSP?
No. We tell you whether the plan is credible and what to fix before signature. Most engagements keep your MSP on BAU while we lead the high-risk slice or review only.
Is FC-08 only for large migrations?
It is most valuable when $30k–$300k is at stake, but we also review agency build quotes, Copilot rollout plans, and security remediation SOWs — anything where the room lacks a qualified reviewer.
