Use this structure to build an infrastructure roadmap your leadership can approve. Fill in each section, then review it every quarter.
1. Renewal calendar
For each agreement, record the end date, the notice period and the decision date.
- VMware and other virtualisation
- Microsoft agreements through EA or CSP
- MSP and support contracts
- Hosting, data centre and connectivity
- Security products and major software licences
2. Lifecycle
- Operating system end-of-support dates
- Server, storage and network hardware age and support dates
- Firewall and appliance support dates
- Major application versions and support

3. Business plans
- Growth, new sites and new systems
- Acquisitions or divestitures
- Regulatory and customer obligations with deadlines
4. Initiatives
For each initiative, record the following.
- The problem it solves and the date that drives it
- Options considered
- Budget range and financial year
- Dependencies and prerequisites
- Owner and delivery approach
5. Sequence
- Place prerequisites first, such as identity before migrations.
- Spread initiatives so they don't all land in one quarter.
- Check the plan against your team's and providers' capacity.
6. Review
- Quarterly review with leadership
- Annual refresh aligned to budget planning
